It was surprisingly easy to ignore Sherlock Holmes. Of course, the consulting detective did not make it difficult. He had gotten into one of his dark, quiet moods. It was just as well. John Watson could easily go about the flat, come and go as he pleased, and not have to worry about sudden plans coming up. He hadn't gotten back with Sarah, though, so there was not as much going out as he would have liked.

"Sure, you've got it, friend," one of Sherlock's favours promised. Sherlock tried his best not to wrinkle his nose at the word "friend." The man who owed him a favour was a large one. Bigger than Angelo, and even more grateful. He preferred not to discuss the circumstances of this, however. Though not his real name, he preferred to be called "Julio." The man was quite smart. Not a proper genius by any means, but clever. Sherlock had respect for him, and this respect prompted him to assist the poor man in the past. That, and the case proved too interesting to be turned down.

The flat was spotless when John came downstairs the next morning. "I thought Mrs. Hudson said she wasn't our housekeeper," he said, rubbing his eyes groggily. "She did," Sherlock said. He was wide awake and bouncing around the kitchen. There were pancakes on the table, steaming. "I couldn't find the syrup and I didn't want to make any," the detective explained when John stared, confused. "You... you made this?" Sherlock nodded. "What, you thought I was completely useless but for my mind? I did live on my own before you, you know." "Yes, but," John could not finish his sentence.
